CHRISTMAS MOVIE: THE SANTA CLAUSE
THE ARROWWOOD7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
The Santa Clause introduces Scott Calvin, a cynical, divorced father and successful toy company executive who is spending Christmas Eve with his young son, Charlie. After a bizarre mishap on his roof causes a man dressed as Santa Claus to fall and vanish, Scott reluctantly tries on the Santa suit and is mysteriously transported to the North Pole. There, the head elf, Bernard, explains the “Santa Clause”: by putting on the suit, Scott has legally agreed to become the new Santa. Despite Scott’s intense skepticism and insistence that it was a dream, Charlie instantly believes his dad is the real Santa, while Scott is faced with physical changes—gaining weight, growing a long white beard—that he can neither control nor explain, straining his already difficult relationship with his ex-wife and her psychiatrist husband.
Over the next year, Scott slowly comes to terms with the magical reality of his new role, realizing that the changes are irreversible and that he truly is becoming Santa Claus. His personal and professional life is thrown into chaos as he prepares for the following Christmas, eventually being forced to use the full extent of Santa’s magic to escape legal custody battles and skeptical authorities. Ultimately, Scott embraces his destiny and fulfills his duties, fully transforming into the beloved figure. The film culminates in a heartwarming acceptance of magic and belief, securing Scott’s place as Santa and strengthening the bond with his son, Charlie, who is now an official Santa’s helper.
